Updates from our founding year.

Milestones, partnerships, and lessons as Ubuntu Village takes root.

Our new website, built to grow with us

We have expanded our website so families, educators, and funders can find what they need more easily. You can now read about each of our four program areas in depth, see how to partner with us, and review our nonprofit credentials. We will keep sharing updates here as our first partnerships begin.

Launching the 100 Founding Families campaign

This fall we launched our first fundraising campaign, asking 100 founding families to help us raise $10,000 by December 31. We chose a goal built around people rather than a single large gift because a village is built that way: many hands, each one counted. The gifts will help us design our first programs with partners and train the mentors and educators who will lead them. Become a founding family.

Ubuntu Village is incorporated and recognized as a 501(c)(3)

On August 5, 2026, Ubuntu Village was incorporated as a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. The IRS has since recognized us as a tax-exempt public charity under section 501(c)(3), effective the same date, which means gifts to Ubuntu Village are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Our founders, Hodari Touré and Shylah Hamilton-Touré, have worked for years at the intersection of education, art, culture, and technology. Ubuntu Village gives that work a permanent home and a structure that communities, funders, and partners can trust. Our board has adopted bylaws and a conflict of interest policy, and our IRS determination letter is available on our website.
